City Folder

Main Activities: The Department of Communal Economy and Environmental Protection of the middle-sized Polish city of Bydgoszcz administers the municipal natural resources of the town, its water infrastructure, the town’s refuse collection and treatment, and it is responsible for the cleanliness and the aesthetic appearance of the town and the quality of its green spaces.
Tasks in GreenKeys: The Municipality reviewed and (re)formulate the goals for the development of its green spaces, implemented a pilot project and established a visual archive of the process of maintenance and lay out an album of species. Through this pilot project, Bydgoszcz created a new green area significant for a well-planned social, ecological and economic development for local residents, which remains open for public access without fees.

Bydgoszcz is located along the banks of the Brda and Vistula Rivers, in the north central part of Poland. The physical relief bestows a picturesque and attractive setting on the city, diversifying the urban landscape and providing a special landscape identity. The Bydgoszcz’ Urban Green Space Strategy aims to develop well defined urban green areas which meet local needs and possess high levels of environmental quality. It also seeks to promote the city’s unique natural and cultural values. Within the GreenKeys programme an arboretum in the Forest Park of Culture and Leisure has been implemented.
